Update on Pain

Those of you who have heard me yelp about serious nerve pain in my ankle, greatly reduced recently by a nerve pain drug - I have good news.

After years of pain, which became severe a year or two ago, I set up an appointment with my primary care physician to discuss pain management. She thought the initial diagnosis might have been incorrect and sent me to a surgeon for a second opinion.

The surgeon did a couple of tests and said, yes, the original diagnosis was incorrect; the nodule could, in fact, be removed, and that we could schedule the minor surgery for the following week.

From my first meeting with him to the surgery last Wednesday, has been four weeks to the day. While I’m still waiting for the incision to heal and stitches to be removed, since the surgery I have been completely free of the incredible pain l’ve been living with for well over a year, and expect to stay that way.

So - my deepest gratitude to my surgeon, to his PA and other staff, to the PCP who sent me to him, and of course to my sister, who once again provided hospital transport.

It’s one thing to have pain greatly reduced by drug use, and another to have the pain completely eliminated, permanently. I am thrilled, and grateful, beyond words.
